What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a site saves on the device of whoever visits it. They keep the site working, remember some of the visitor's choices, and — on many sites, though not on this one — gather information about browsing behaviour.

They fall into technical cookies, needed for the site to work and allowed without consent, and profiling or measurement cookies, which do require the visitor's prior consent.

Why there is no banner

No consent banner appears on this site, and that is not an oversight.

Prior consent is required when a site sets profiling cookies, runs traffic-measurement tools, or embeds third-party content that tracks visitors. This site does none of those things: no analytics, no embedded videos or maps, no social buttons loading external code.

What remains are the technical cookies listed above, which Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC exempts from the consent requirement. A banner here would ask permission that isn't needed.

Third-party cookies

This site sets no third-party cookies.

Articles link to YouTube, LinkedIn, the Internet Archive and other sites, but these are plain links: your browser contacts those services only if you choose to click, and at that point you are on another site, under its own rules and cookies.

The same goes for the sharing buttons: they open the platform's share window without loading anything into the page.

Typefaces are hosted on the site's own server too, so displaying them involves no outside request.
