Who handles your data
The data controller for information collected through this site is:
Roberto Plaja
via E. Bosia 5B
6900 Paradiso
Switzerland
roplaja@me.com
This is a personal, non-commercial blog. It sells nothing, carries no advertising, and is not connected to the author's professional activity.
The controller is resident in Switzerland. Because the site is also addressed to readers located in the European Union, processing falls under Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) by virtue of Article 3(2), as well as under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP).
What we collect
This site collects the minimum needed to work. Specifically:
Browsing data
The systems running the site automatically record certain technical information, as any website does: IP address, date and time of the request, page requested, browser and operating system, and the outcome of the request. This data is not used to identify visitors and is not combined with anything else.
Language preference
The site is available in English and Italian. Your chosen language is stored in a technical cookie so you don't have to select it again on every page. Details are in the Cookie Policy.
Email correspondence
If you write to the address on the Contact page, the information in your message is used to reply. Correspondence goes through ordinary email and does not pass through the site: there is no contact form, and no message is stored on the site.
What this site does not do.
It uses no analytics or traffic-measurement tools. It sets no profiling cookies. It hosts no contact or subscription forms. It accepts no comments. It sends no newsletter. It carries out no profiling and no automated decision-making.
Why, and on what legal basis
| Purpose | Legal basis | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Delivering the requested pages and running the site | Legitimate interest — Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR | Duration of the visit |
| Infrastructure security, diagnostics and abuse prevention (server logs) | Legitimate interest — Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR | No longer than 30 days |
| Remembering the language you selected | Legitimate interest — Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; technical cookie exempt from consent | Up to 24 hours |
| Replying to email sent on your own initiative | Legitimate interest — Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR | As long as needed for the exchange and any record of it |
The legitimate interest relied on is keeping the site reachable, secure and usable. These are low-impact operations: they involve no assessment of individuals and no decisions affecting them. You can object at any time by writing to the controller.
Who has access
Besides the controller, access is limited to the parties providing the technical services the site needs. They are appointed as processors under Article 28 GDPR and act only on the controller's instructions:
| Party | Role | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Proimago S.r.l. Via Antonio Gramsci 20, Rome |
Technical management, maintenance and updates | Italy |
| Hostinger International Ltd | Hosting and data storage (sub-processor) | Lithuania — servers in France |
Data is never published, sold or otherwise passed on to third parties.
Where data is processed
The site is hosted on servers located in France, within the European Union. Data therefore stays inside the European Economic Area.
The controller, resident in Switzerland, accesses the site and his mailbox from Switzerland. Switzerland is covered by a European Commission adequacy decision recognising a level of data protection equivalent to the European one. For as long as that decision remains in force, this access requires no additional safeguards.
No transfers to any other third country take place.
External links and content
Articles on this site link to external resources: videos on YouTube, pages on other sites, material archived on the Internet Archive, and the author's LinkedIn profile.
These are plain links, not embedded content. Your browser does not contact those services until you choose to click. When you do, you leave this site and the relevant provider's own policies apply.
The sharing buttons at the foot of each article work the same way: they open the chosen platform's share window without loading third-party code into the page and without setting cookies.
The typefaces used by the site are hosted on the same server as the pages, so displaying them involves no request to any external service.
Your rights
At any time you may ask the controller to:
- confirm whether your data is being processed and give you a copy (access);
- correct inaccurate data or complete incomplete data (rectification);
- erase data concerning you;
- restrict processing in the cases provided by law;
- provide your data in a machine-readable format (portability);
- stop processing based on legitimate interest (objection).
These rights come from Articles 15-22 GDPR and, as regards Swiss law, from the FADP.
To exercise them, write to roplaja@me.com. The controller replies within one month. Exercising your rights is free of charge.
Lodging a complaint
If you believe the processing of your data breaches the law, you may lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority of the Member State where you habitually reside, where you work, or where the alleged breach took place. Readers in Italy may contact the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
For matters under Swiss law, the competent authority is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), Bern.
Changes
This policy may be updated if the services the site uses change, or if the applicable law does. The date at the top of the page always shows the latest revision. Earlier versions can be requested from the controller.
